“Future · Shaping the Landscape” China–Portugal Foresight Summit and Global Launch of FUTURE II

On 29 May 2025, FGI Group Holdings and Fosun Asset Management (FAM) jointly hosted the China–Portugal Foresight Summit in Hong Kong, China, alongside the global launch of FUTURE II. The summit brought together participants from the financial, policy and investment sectors in China and Portugal for in-depth discussions on global asset allocation trends and emerging investment strategies in Portugal.

“Shaping the Landscape”: anticipating policy developments and navigating global assets

Under the theme “Shaping the Landscape”, the summit explored how participants may anticipate policy developments and navigate global asset allocation, using Portugal as a vantage point from which to consider structural trends across the European Union and the wider global economy. The event brought together participants from the financial, policy and investment sectors in China and Portugal, alongside representatives from banking, insurance, migration industry associations and international distribution partners.

Filipe Santos Costa: investing in the “West Coast of Europe”

Filipe Santos Costa, former chairman of AICEP, opened his address with a greeting in Mandarin before discussing the longstanding relationship between China and Portugal. He noted that Portugal, as a Member State of the European Union and a founding member of both the euro area and the Schengen Area, serves as an important gateway to European markets. He also observed that 2024 marked the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal. In discussing Portugal’s investment environment, he cited international rankings indicating that Portugal ranked seventh in the 2024 Global Peace Index, placing it among Europe’s safest countries, and seventh in the 2024 European Investment Monitor as a European destination for foreign investment.

Global launch of FUTURE II

A central moment of the summit was the global presentation and ribbon-cutting ceremony for FUTURE II. Dr Wu Mingqi, founder and chief executive officer of FGI Group Holdings, delivered remarks before joining participating guests to commence the launch ceremony. Following the countdown, FUTURE II was formally unveiled, marking a new phase in the collaboration between FGI and Fosun Asset Management in Portugal’s fund sector and broadening the range of solutions available for consideration by eligible investors.

Millennium BCP: continued improvement in fiscal indicators

Constantino Mousinho, general manager of the Macau Branch of Millennium BCP, cited official data when discussing the fundamentals of the Portuguese economy. According to the indicators presented, Portugal’s real GDP grew by 1.9% in 2024, outperforming the euro-area average for a third consecutive year. Unemployment remained at 6.4%, substantially below the 17.1% peak recorded in 2013. Public-finance indicators also continued to improve, with a government budget surplus equivalent to 0.7% of GDP in 2024 and public debt declining to 95% of GDP.

Foresight forum · Investment rationale of FUTURE II

Connecting resilient assets with routes associated with the Portuguese Golden Visa

The foresight forum brought together four participants to discuss the positioning of FUTURE II within a global allocation framework and the potential relationship between assets with defensive characteristics and investment routes associated with the Portuguese Golden Visa programme. Carolina Welsh, executive director and head of fund investments at FGI Capital, presented the governance framework and investment management capabilities of FGI Capital as a regulated European management company. A representative of Fosun Asset Management (FAM) summarised the FUTURE II approach through the concepts of “continuity and evolution”. Continuity referred to the objective of seeking income stability and cost-efficient management while continuing to identify quality European assets; evolution referred to the continued expansion of the investment universe and perspective. On the evening before the summit, the organisers hosted a FUTURE I celebration dinner, bringing together organisations from the migration sector to review the development of FUTURE I since its launch in Macau. The programme also included an awards ceremony recognising the contributions of selected partners.
